Medina intensifies treatment in Brasil in order to be ready for WCT´s stage in Saquarema
Back to Brazil, Gabriel Medina intensified his right knee injury treatment. He suffered the injury in the beginning of the WCT open, in West Coast, Australia, on March 20th. The expectation is that he is able to compete in the stage of Saquarema of the Tour, which opens the window in May 9th.
During the two following stages, in which he competed, he did a recovery work with physiotherapy. When he returned, he was examinated by Mar Azul´s Institute, doctor Marcelo Baboghluian, who follows Gabriel since his youth. He intensified the works in physiotherapy, making constant evaluations.
“Gabriel presentes the medial collateral ligament grade 2, without any harm on the Meniscus or serious edema, so he needs from 8 to 10 weeks to be completely recovered. As the injury happened to be in March 20th, I do believe that will be in good conditions to be competing in Rio”, said Baboghluian.
The physiotherapeutic procedure has been made by sports physiotherapist and osteopath Gabriel Theodoro Peixoto, who also works next to Gabriel since his 16 years old, and was also in charge of other injury treatments of the athlete. “The treatment consists in going against the injury mechanism, in which provides movement gain through myofascial releases, mobilizations and manipulation associated to fortification, sensorimotor training and sporting gesture recovery”, explains Peixoto, who is also physhiotherapist of Life Square Health Center clinic.
