Gabriel Medina delivers more than 500 toys in Maresias for anticipation to Children´s Day
He has already built the Institute in Maresias, where helds his own name to attend young surf talents, as a way of repaying a little of what the sport gave him. On September 27th, Gabriel Medina has extended his way of thanking for all that´s been going on in his life and career, providing the join for more than 500 children from local public schools in his homeland.
For Children´s Day, Gabriel has anticipated the acts, since he´ll be travelling to France, competing for WCT. Personally he delivered each and every single toy for the childrenn. The promotion was a sponsorship between Gabriel Medina Institute (GMI) among Armarinhos Fernando, a chain store which is already an Institute´s partner and also the master sponsorship of the contest created by the surfer.
First, he visited the School EMEI Arlete Nascimento Moura, a.k.a ‘Golden Little Fish’ in the backwoods of Maresias. In total, 373 students from 3 to 6 years old. They were organized in rows and have been gifted from the hands of Gabriel, among a special hug from him. The party was big, along with the benefited by shouting Gabriel Medina as ‘champion’.
After that came the day care center ‘Creche Maresias’, giving another 150 children, aged 3 and 4. Again, many hugs and smiles have been given. “I came here before Children’s Day, because I have to travel to compete, but I studied here, I lived nearby and I’m really enjoying being around you” Gabriel said to the children. “I’m very happy. It´s very good to return here. Their smile worth a lot to me. It’s a special spur”, he added.
Entrepreneur Eduardo Fidalgo Esquerdo, one of the directors of Armarinhos Fernando, highlighted the partnership with Gabriel and his institute during this action. “We began to know more about the reality of Maresias through the relationship with the Medina´s Family, and when Gabriel spoke about this action, we decided to collaborate. The result was fantastic”, said Eduardo.
Gabriel now heads to France, where he is in the ninth round of the World Circuit. The hindsight is favorable. In six appearances, they were two wins, two second places and two fifths.
With the activities started on February 1st, the Gabriel Medina Institute is the dream come true of the first Brazilian Surf World Champion, who wanted to give back to the community a little of what surfing has provided him. The headquarters is located in Praia de Maresias, just seafronted where Gabriel learned to surf.
In the space, the selected athletes receive free technical and tactical guidance at sea, including notions of judgment, swimming, functional training and even apnea. They also offer classes in English, technology, food, as well as medical and dental care. The athletes make the trainings in the second shift of the School, and they´re already preesenting positive results during the competitions.
