Medina keeps on making history by winning Future Classic
Gabriel Medina keeps on making history in World Surfing. On September 19th, he won the Future Classic title, the first championship in Kelly Slater´s wave pool, promoted by World Surf League (WSL). The championship awarded the modern, dynamic, fast and radical surf, where the first brazilian surf world Champion had showed a vast repertory of maneuvers, surfing well in both left and right waves.
The historical competition has officially launched Kelly Slater Wave Company, an artificial wave pool, dubbed ‘Surf Ranch’, in Lemoore, Califonia, USA. Great names of the surf scenario had attended the party, including other world surf champions, such as Mick Fanning and John John Florence.
In the finals, Gabriel has overcomed Filipe Toledo, another showman in the contest. Each athlete surfed two waves for the right and two more for the left, adding the best ones on each side. The winner has scored 16,87 and stayed waiting the final act from ‘Filipinho’, who wasn´t able to turn over the result.
“I was nervous, but I actually like this type of competition”, Gabriel blew out. “It will be a day that will always remain in my memories. It´s the future happening now. We are living in a dream. It was a honour to live it among with the best surfers in the World”, highlighted the Maresias Beach surfer, from São Sebastiao. “It was amazing, a dream kind of wave”, he added.
