Gabriel Medina Institute will hold a strong social impact on the community
Much more than training talented surfers, Gabriel Medina Institute will hold a strong social impact on the community. The enterprise from the first brazilian World Surf Champion, along with his family, is about to start its activities. The head office is almost ready and stays at Maresias´ Beach, in São Sebastião, where Gabriel first started surfing and still lives today.
The first idea was to create potential competitors, “wave champions”, using the example of an icon of surf, but as the project got its own dimension and uniting all of the lives experiences from Gabriel and his mother, Simone Medina, the president of the Institute, a new and important strand gained strengh.
Along with the prep of the high-yield athletes, just like Gabriel has, including the same professionals that followed him, the Institute will hold a lot of socio-educational actions and also in promotion to health. The studies are going to be required and the participants will be in school during a time of the day, and the other time, they´ll stay in the entity (from mondays to fridays), receiving food and specific trainings inside and outside the water, under the coordination from Charles Saldanha, who guides Gabriel since the beginning of his career.
Also the families of the young participants will be involved in planned activities, such as professional courses and lectures. Among those activities being prepared are the Make-up Workshop with Vult Cosmética, in order to benefit the mothers of the children. There will be also language classes and computer notions for the participants. Another benefit is the health prevention, which will include periodic medical and dentistry examinations, made by professionals from the partnership in the Institute, that have wide experience in those kind of social involvement.
“What Gabriel wants, with our help, is to transform the lives of those children. They need to be ready to conquer and be capable to live with this. Becoming fulfilled human beings, ready to live any kind of situation in their lives. Through sports, we can manage to work on live values. Sports dictate rules”, she commented. “We are going to emphasize their principals and also in their families, in order to create a syncro gear. I believe in the reverse path. Parents are being transformed by their own children, in a positive way”, Simone emphasizes, who easily becomes thrilled when it comes to talk about the Institute.
After a general meeting with the staff, which is going to work on the Institute, and seeing the frontage basically ready, she demonstrates all the caring for the new project. “Oh my God! It feels so good to feel the emotion, the happiness, the plenitude to accomplish a dream. You know that feeling when we won a child? That all of those feelings mixes simply between them, the responsability to have someone from there onwards, that depends from you and that being is what you have the best in that moment, and it feels enough for you? That is the exact feeling when I get into the Institute”, describes.
“This is the dream of a generated child, who was born and with a lot of happiness, responsability and love will be breasfed, then will teach to walk, to talk, helping during his growing and be pleased with the results. Getting emotioned again and again during many, many times, until it gets to the next generations. Thank God!”, completes the president of Gabriel Medina Institute.
Simone shows a high expectation for the Institute´s future. She knows that not all of the participants will become future champions on the waves, but certainly will be prepared to be good citizens and victorious on the careers they´ll follow. “I know their reality, I lived on this reality. Whether if he becomes a doorman, a gardener, he will make a difference and teach other people who we´ll be together. We must enjoy and take advantage of this mechanism, this tool that´s being created”, she arguments.
“I see hope in this new generation. We intent to change the reality of a village, later maybe of a town, then from a state and a whole country. I´ll go beyond. Because this will spread. I believe in that! Let us plant and there forward a lot of people will harverst. A seed which will rise good fruits. That is for sure. I guarantee. And as we say in surf, “we stay together”, says Simone Medina.
LAW OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO SPORT – The head office from Gabriel Medina Institute stays at Maresias´ Beach (Avenida Francisco Loup, 893). All of the structure is being lifted with private resources and it includes gym, classrooms, doctor´s office, pool, elastic bed (for air trainings) and even a palanque to hold championships and battery simulation. Surfers from 10 to 16 years old will attend, pre-selected in Circuito Medina/ASM 2016 and in future trials.
For the maintenance of the Institute, will be used the Lei de Incentivo ao Esporte – LIE (in free English translation, “Law of Encouragement to Sport”), from Brazil´s Sport Ministry, a mechanism which companies invest, donating 1% from the Income Tax Return. The money, which already would be destined to taxing, but in this case will help in sports´ development. “As long as our project will be aprove by the Ministries, we are going to capture the resources with interested companies, which will have total involvement with our future actions. They will work as the “fathers” of these children”, Simone added.
Besides “Law of Encouragement to Sport”, Gabriel Medina Institute will have sponsors, like Coppertone, the first official partnership, that lauched the campaign #CountOnMeMedina, in order to design R$ 1 (one real, in brazilian currency) to the institute from each sunscreen sold during this summer. “Proudly I´m the president of the Institute. We set up a staff with people we know, trust and we know they´ll take all of this seriously. From now on, we are going to seach for the companies who wants to be “on board” in this dream with us”, she completed.
